Almost a dozen accidents were reported in the Pittsburgh area during the Wednesday morning commute.

Three of the accidents were along Route 50 where icy conditions could be to blame, officials said.

One accident involved a motorcycle, another an SUV with front-end damage and the third involved a driver who couldn’t stop his pickup truck in time to miss hitting the guide rail.

Drivers said they weren’t prepared for icy conditions because of the recent spring-like temperatures in the daytime.

“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Dave Ziacik said. “In fact, it became icier as I went.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation sent salt trucks to cover any roads, including Route 50, where ice was an issue.

South Fayette police said the accident scenes were clear and the road reopened around 7:30 a.m.
